Sonja Georgevich small logoWe are honored and proud to present Lauren Singer to you, our Rookie of the Month May 2015. This young lady is already making quite a name for herself through her blog Trash is for Tossers. It documents her Zero Waste journey and shows that leading a Zero Waste lifestyle is simple, cost-effective, timely, fun, & entirely possible for everyone and anyone. She also started The Simply Co, a completely natural washing detergent. Come and meet Lauren and listen to her story on May 27th at Acme Studio Brooklyn.

Who are you and what kind of business do you have?
My name is Lauren Singer. I’m an environmental studies major and lover of sustainability who made a choice to not just talk about and study the environment, but actually live sustainably which I write about in my blog, Trash is for Tossers, and help bring to others through my business, The Simply Co.

What was your motivation to start working for yourself?
I realized that people don’t have truly great choices when it comes to sustainable cleaning products. I make ones that are effective and safe for your body, home, and environment and have for years because of my Zero Waste lifestyle, so I decided to bring these products to people who want truly natural products, but don’t have the time to make it themselves.

What’s the best thing about being an entrepreneur?
I love knowing that if my business is successful, it is because I worked incredibly hard for it, that feeling is truly gratifying.

When did you know the entrepreneurial lifestyle was meant for you?
The second I started my first office job.

What’s your ambition for the next 5 years?
I would like to continue to grow my company and see where that takes me.

What’s the best advice you can give a Rookie?
Do what makes you happy, and only that.

Who would you like to nominate as an awesome Rookie?
Chelsea Miller of Chelsea Miller Knives.
